Frequently asked questions

How do wear alerts work?

Each component has a replacement interval in km and/or months. Some wear from use (chain, cassette), others degrade over time (brake fluid, fork oil), others both (tires, cables). The worst of the two ratios determines the status. At 80% the component shows as "Due soon", at 100% "Overdue".

How is the health status calculated?

Each bike's health is shown as a colored circle. Green = all good, amber = a service is coming up, red = overdue. The more filled the circle, the healthier the bike.

Can I customize alerts and add my own components?

Yes. In bike settings, you can adjust the km and time thresholds for each component, or set 0 to disable an alert. You can also add your own components (tubeless sealant, belt drive…). To tailor all thresholds at once to how you ride, run the setup from the bike page.

How does the personalised threshold setup work?

From each bike page, ChainLog walks you through a quick setup: terrain, weather, weekly km, weight, storage, cleaning, current state of the bike. From your answers, we calculate maintenance intervals tailored to how you ride. You can adjust each value before confirming. For the last step, you choose between a new or recently serviced bike (optional service date), a used bike with declared mileage (which adjusts the total distance), or no reliable history (alerts based on your existing km). Everything stays editable in bike settings.

How do I choose my bike type?

The bike type (road, MTB, gravel, urban…) determines which components are tracked. For imported bikes (Strava, RWGPS), it's auto-detected. For manual bikes, you pick it at creation. You can always change it in your bike settings (gear icon).

How do I add a bike?

ChainLog automatically imports your bikes from Strava. You can also connect Ride with GPS to sync your rides, or add a bike manually. Manual bike mileage is based on the rides you add.

How do I add a ride manually?

From the dashboard, tap the "+" button to add a ride. Enter the date, distance, and optionally duration, elevation and a name. Manual rides can be deleted, unlike synced rides.

What are recurring rides?

If you ride the same route regularly (e.g. bike commuting), you can set it up once and ChainLog will automatically create rides on your chosen days. When adding a ride, toggle "Is this a regular ride?" to select repeat days. The km count toward maintenance alerts and certificates.

Can I use recurring rides with Strava?

You can, but watch out for double counting: if Strava or RWGPS also records the ride, kilometers will be counted twice. Prefer recurring rides on bikes without auto-sync.

What happens if I delete a recurring ride?

You can choose to keep the generated rides or delete them too. If you keep them, they remain as regular manual rides.

I added a bike on Strava but it doesn't show up

Your bikes are synced on each login and each manual sync. If you just added a bike on Strava, tap the sync button on the dashboard to make it appear.

Why are some rides "unassigned"?

When a Strava ride isn't linked to a bike, it stays unassigned. You can bulk-assign them from the dashboard by picking a bike and a date range. If your Strava account allows it, the assignment is also synced back to Strava.

The displayed mileage is wrong, what can I do?

You can add untracked km in the bike settings (e.g. rides without GPS). Base mileage comes from your connected services (Strava, RWGPS) or from your manual rides.

What is the maintenance certificate for?

The certificate is a unique link you can share with a potential buyer when selling your bike. It shows mileage (verified via Strava/RWGPS or self-declared), component wear status, and maintenance history. Invoice-backed entries are marked as verified.

What data is collected?

ChainLog collects your email and, if you connect Strava or Ride with GPS, your profile, bikes and cycling activities. You can also add bikes and rides manually. See our privacy policy for more details.

How do I revoke ChainLog's access to my connected accounts?

For Strava: go to Settings → My Apps → ChainLog, then click "Revoke Access". For Ride with GPS: disconnect your account from ChainLog's Profile page. ChainLog will no longer be able to access your data.

How do I report a bug or suggest an improvement?

Send us an email at the address above describing the issue or your suggestion. We typically respond within 48 hours.

How do I import a shop invoice?

On your bike page, click the chevron (▾) next to the maintenance button then "Import from invoice". Drop a photo or PDF of the invoice. ChainLog automatically detects components, prices and date. Items that don't match a specific component (lubricant, adjustments…) are filed under "Other". Review the results, then confirm to add the maintenance entries. Invoice-backed entries are marked as verified on the certificate.

How does maintenance cost tracking work?

When you add a maintenance entry (manually or via an invoice), you can enter the cost. ChainLog automatically calculates total spent, average per year and cost per km. You'll find these figures in the "Maintenance" tab of each bike. If you didn't enter costs for past entries, you can edit them anytime.

How do I sell or share my bike on ChainLog?

Go to your bike page, "Sell" tab. Three modes are available: "For sale" to publish a sale listing, "Sold" to keep the listing visible after selling, and "Not for sale" to share your bike publicly without selling it. Add a description, price, location and photos. Your listing is reviewed before publication. Once published, it's accessible via a public link that includes your maintenance certificate, verified mileage and maintenance history.

What is the purchase invoice for?

The purchase invoice proves the origin of your bike. You can add it in your bike settings under "Origin". It appears as a trust badge on the certificate and sale listing. This is different from maintenance invoices, which document services performed.

Is my listing reviewed before publication?

Yes. Every published listing is automatically analyzed then manually reviewed by our team. If the content (text or photos) doesn't meet our guidelines, the listing may be suspended. You'll be notified and can edit your listing to republish it.

What is the bike digital product passport?

The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is an EU requirement that will apply to bicycles from 2027. It mandates tracing a product's lifecycle: components, maintenance, resale. ChainLog already covers a large part of these requirements on the user side. Learn more →

How do I install ChainLog on my phone?

ChainLog is an installable web app. On iPhone, tap the share button then "Add to Home Screen". On Android, tap "Install" in the banner or browser menu.

How does the listing auto-fill work?

When creating a listing, click "Prefill" to automatically generate a description and suggested price from your bike data (mileage, components, maintenance). You can edit the text before publishing.

How do I repost my listing on other marketplaces?

On your published listing page, click "Export". A ready-to-paste text is generated with mileage, component status and a link to your ChainLog certificate.

How do I manage email notifications?

Go to your profile to enable or disable maintenance alert emails. You can also unsubscribe via the link at the bottom of any email you receive.

Why is an email required at signup?

Your email is used to send wear alerts and to generate a maintenance certificate for resale. Without an email, these features are not available.

How do I pause a bike?

On the bike page, open the menu (⋮) then "Pause". The bike disappears from your list and wear alerts stop. Certificate and listings are not affected. You can reactivate it anytime.

Is Geovelo supported?

The Geovelo integration is temporarily unavailable. We are working on an official partnership to restore it.

How do I share my garage?

Enable the public profile in your preferences and pick a username. You get a shareable link (chainlog.app/@username) that shows your bikes, stats and listings. You can choose which bikes are visible and disable the profile anytime.

How do I delete my account?

Go to your profile (icon in the top right), then click "Delete account". Your bikes, rides, maintenance, invoices and certificates will be permanently deleted.
